To the rolling wave problem

Rolling waves arising under certain conditions in fluxes with free surfaces are considered. The definitions for L- and S-stability of the flowing liquid are given. Conclusions concerning the conditions of rolling wave appearance, which stem from theory and experiment, are formulated. The general criterion for the stability in small of a stationary motion in a prism-like channel is deduced. The link between the stability with respect to initial condition perturbations and that between the stability with respect to boundary condition perturbations is shown.
