THE SHAPE OF THE SURFACE IN TANGENTIAL MACHINING

In machining bodies of rotation with tangential cutting it is impossible to obtain an ideal cylindrical surface of a component. The form of the surface in section perpendicular to the component’s axis looks like a polygon. The sides of the polygon can be both convex and concave and are sites of cyclic curves – trajectories of tops (points of an edge) cutters of the tool within a preform. Crossings of trajectories of the neighboring tool’s teeth form on the surface of a component a comb h – a deviation from an ideal circle of the component. In this paper conditions at which this feature of tangential cutting can be used for realizing many-sided components are shown.

Keywords: the shape of the surface machined, tangential cutting schemes, tool, component, trajectory of cutting, kinematical error.
