THE CULTURAL MEANINGS OF KITSCH

The article is devoted to the problem of constructing the cultural meanings of kitsch. The wide spread of kitsch is connected with commercialization of relations in all spheres of social life as well as unknown before development of the mass media. Kitsch, as mass culture as a whole, evokes contradictory, sometimes quite polar judgments of analysts including very negative ones. Ambivalence of this phenomenon demands to ground its essential features that will allow giving more objective appraisal, predicating its antihuman manifestations following its further spreading.
